These butterflies are a bunch of saps - at least, hooked on such. Looks like one little butterfly stayed a bit too long. See it's tattered wings?
This nature photo was taken in late Spring on the banks of a seasonal creek. By the way, 'seasonal creek' is merely a nice way of saying 'a gorge that occasionally fills with flood waters'.
